STAGING

Listening, Learning, And Growing Is What I'm All About.

Hi! You’ve stumbled into the section where I share a bit about myself.

I feel it’s important to speak about who I am, what I do, and where I see myself going.

Early beginnings

I didn't grow up aspiring to be a designer. When I was a little boy I spent most of my time creating LEGO and PlayDoh structures, eventually advancing to more complicated Erector sets. Even though the concept of design eluded me, I understood how to use my hands to create and build, as well as following the provided instructions to build out an awesome car, truck, plane or house.

It was always important to me to have my creation look and move just right, and I would spend all my time devoted to getting it right. Looking back on those times, creating something always makes me happy and the more I did it, the better I got.

Empathetic inspiration

My first real inspiration for becoming a designer came when I was working at a local sign shop. We had a client that could come print these wonderfully designed banners and signs for his church. Each design would evoke such strong feelings of warmth, togetherness and faith in me and unconsciously made me want to be a part of this community. All the elements worked together to create such a strong feeling and I wanted to learn how I could create and harness those emotions in my work.

Putting skills into practice

I've been privileged to work in different design fields ranging from Graphic and Web design, Motion design, and more recently, Visual and UX design.

I’ve seen how design can evoke a range of emotions, from happiness and warmth, to disgust and indifference. I find it intriguing how each emotion can be stragetically emphasized to work towards a specific outcome.

I'm a techie at heart and aside from having a high aptitude for technology, I always look at whatever I'm using through the eyes of my design background. I’m amazed at the state of advancing technology and it excites me to think about how I could use my previous experiences to shape future projects.

When I have free time

The fact that I enjoy learning is not a secret to those who know me best. Whether it’s a new design skill or a do-it-yourself project, I take pride in learning all that I can to get reach my end goal. And, while I know that there are always new and interesting things to learn, there are only so many hours in the day to explore those possibilities. Being able to effectively document my interests for the future helps keep those ideas organized.

Photography has become a new passion, giving me a new outlet to utilize my attention for detail. Learning different techniques, putting them into practice, and delivering beautiful photos that I can be proud of brings me a strong sense of achievement and happiness.

I wouldn’t be where I am without my family. They have been my foundation with times are tough and my joy when things are going well. Being able to spend quality time with the people who mean the most to me is time I will never regret. A special shout out goes to my cats who, as always, keep me on the edge of joy and insanity.

Thank you for dropping by!
